From insanity to a purpose.

This week’s op-ed is written by Cre8ors founding member Tina.

Albert Einstein defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result’.

My Web3 story started much like many others; by trying to find purpose in my work life that had become mundane and meaningless. The same routine every day. Get up, go to work with the same idea that things will eventually change for the better, go home, take care of the day-to-day chores, go to bed, wake up and start again. Insanity!

A quick backstory: I was raised by my grandparents until I was 8 years old. I was then forced to move in with my abusive father and his 5th wife. I tolerated that environment until I legally emancipated myself and moved into adulthood at the age of 16. For the next few years, I bounced around from place to place with no real purpose, doing what I could to survive in a very unforgiving world. A place with very little hope and quick to judge with no mercy. Then at the age of 25, I met my husband. He was very kind to me and helped me start a new life journey. The next few years were spent raising babies, going through nursing school, and maintaining a full time job, Then in Dec 2019 -COVID! At this point in my nursing career, I had a clinic job that did not require me to work through the COVID crisis. However, our clinic was forced to close, and we spent the next three months locked indoors with the rest of the world.

During that time, I was able to do some self-reflection. I knew that my job was important, and at times, rewarding. There is some satisfaction in walking a patient out of the facility after you have nursed them through the fight of their life. However, most of the time, patients were ungrateful and treated the healthcare system as an entitled service.

Working with staff that possessed the “God Complex” and treated the under staff as if they were two feet tall and indispensable was not the ideal working environment either.

Long story short - after 20 years, my job was no longer fulfilling, and I was looking for a different purpose. Being locked inside, I started looking online for something new!

I began reading articles about cryptocurrency. I had dabbled in the stock market, and I thought it couldn’t be much different. So, off I went. I soaked up everything I could about cryptocurrency. Blockchains, wallets, crypto exchanges, and anything else I could find that was crypto related. However, through all my research, I realized that crypto wasn’t just another way to make money. Crypto was a movement! A system of financial currency that was “Decentralized” and completely transparent with NO government oversight. This was history in the making and I wanted to be a part of creating it. It was an amazing new adventure!

I started buying crypto and then moved into creating art and buying/selling NFT’s. This was a very fast paced endeavor but at the same time, it was very exhilarating. I juggled this new adventure with my IRL job for a while until...the “Bear Market”. Things slowed down just as quickly as they started. And again, I found myself looking for another purpose.

During my NFT journey, I received an invitation on Twitter from Chill Pill. He asked me to join his community and be a part of something different. I had only seen Chill Pill on the timeline a few times and didn’t really know much about him. I was a little skeptical of this different idea because I was still new to the space and not familiar with his project. I decided that this might be an opportunity to learn more, so I accepted his invitation.

I quickly realized that this community was not just another NFT project. What I found was a group of people that were willing to walk with me through my creative journey. I found a place where hope and inspiration thrive and become reality. I found a place where people work together to build a world without fear, judgement, or selfish motives.

The Cre8ors team have envisioned an entirely new concept of learning, experiencing, and teaching what community should be. I am grateful that Chill Pill invited me into this new and different space. It has given me the courage to leave my nursing career and start a new journey with Cre8ors. It’s not another project, it’s a “different” community with a purpose!
